Jeddah Islamic Port Enhances Saudi-Moroccan Trade with Six Shipping Lines and Services
Jeddah Islamic Port has taken effective steps towards boosting trade with the Kingdom of Morocco as well as promoting national exports with six key shipping lines and services, a move that resulted in a 117% growth in trade volumes.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy by the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) to raise the competitiveness of Saudi ports on the investment and logistics fronts, strengthen local importers and exporters, and fulfil the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) to enhance the port sector’s global connectivity and position the Kingdom as a pioneering logistics hub.
Jeddah Islamic Port represents an ideal launchpad towards Moroccan ports in view of its presence on the maritime trade network that traverses the Red Sea, in addition to its world-class operating capabilities that include four terminals and 62 multipurpose berths with depths ranging from 7.5 meters to 18 meters over a vast area of 12.5 square meters, and an annual throughput capacity of 130 million tons.
Jeddah Islamic Port is the Red Sea’s leading hub for maritime trade and transshipment, having handled 60,589,238 tons of cargo volumes, 4,883,627 TEUs of container volumes, and 2,758,491 TEUs of transshipment volumes during 2021.
